The Blackdown Hills Assisted Living scheme is built around a highly reputable, family-owned care home and dementia care establishment near the Blackdown Hills in Surrey. Our client wanted to explore options for adding new assisted living retirement accommodation to their well established care home.

Therefore we carried out a feasibility study for placing the assisted living component on the site. We developed several options, working in close collaboration with locally based planning consultants. Our option appraisals are backed by our design experience and insights that we gained from working in the retirement sector for nearly 20 years. They proved invaluable in helping our clients create a business plan and brief for the Blackdown Hills Assisted Living scheme.

We also prepared Virtual Reality models of the different options for the assisted living scheme. So our clients were able to ‘walk through’ these at the several co-design workshops that we held on site. The virtual reality models are incredibly useful, especially for our lay-clients. Not only do they remove the stress of having to review complex drawings. Most importantly they give the client more confidence in what the physical end result may look like.

Subsequently we developed the designs for the Blackdown Hills Assisted Living scheme to a level that would be suitable for submitting a planning application, before the client decided to pause progress on the development so they could focus on other parts of their business.
