Alistair is an Associate at GFA and an experienced project architect, with experience across commercial, residential and retirement living projects, as well as urban design. His work is particularly focused on existing buildings, with an interest in complex refurbishment and the conservation of historic buildings and places.

Originally from Oxfordshire, Alistair studied art and design in South Devon before completing his architectural education at the Welsh School of Architecture. He joined GFA in 2018, having previously worked at a Cardiff practice where he gained experience across social housing, commercial development and urban masterplanning.

Alistair enjoys the challenges and opportunities that come with working with existing buildings — understanding their history, character and construction, and finding ways to adapt them for contemporary life without losing what makes them distinctive. He is particularly interested in how thoughtful retrofit and adaptive reuse can extend the life of buildings, retain embodied energy and make the most of what is already there.

He is a registrant on the RIBA Conservation Register and continues to develop his conservation expertise through his work on a range of historic and listed buildings.
