The airbase at RAF Bicester essentially dates from 1925 until 1994, when the final United States Air Force personnel stationed there vacated. In 2008, many parts of the site were designated a Conservation Area; including the technical site, airfield and defence structures, which Bicester Heritage then acquired in 2013. Overall there are more than 60 listed buildings on the site.
The Masterplan developed by Gaunt Francis Architects re-imagines the site as a specialist business park; providing international class facilities and service for vintage car businesses and aviation entrepreneurs. The site’s proximity to London, Birmingham and Silverstone motorsport corridor provides easy access for potential clients whether they are preparing for races, dealing in vintage vehicles, or driving for recreation. The project involved a mix of new uses, including workshops, showrooms and overnight accommodation; through conversion, extension and refurbishment of the existing estate.
