The Gaunt Francis commission involved conversion of a redundant 1960’s office tower into new residential accommodation, by taking advantage of Permitted Development Rights legislation. 50 contemporary 1 and 2 bedroom apartments were designed efficiently out of the existing floorplates. The commission then extended to include new retail space at ground floor, and a new cladding system externally. A two storey side wing of the existing podium block was to be demolished to create a new pedestrian link between the High Street and a Multi-storey car park at the rear.
